About Coach

Muay Thai has been a part of Steve’s life since 1992, and while he’s always enjoyed it, he fell in love with it when he went to train at Jitti Gym in Bangkok in 1993. While there, he saw everyone working hard and fighting hard, but also laughing and having a great time. It’s that Thai sensibility – that unique combination of seriousness and fun – that Steve tries to bring whenever training a person or instructing a class. In the thirty years he has been teaching, he gets the most satisfaction when he sees an individual student have that eureka moment when they understand and can execute a technique. Steve competed in both amateur – winning a bronze medal at the IAMTF World Championships – and professional Muay Thai – capturing the US WKA titles at 147 and 154 pounds, the US ISKA 147-pound title, and the USMTA 147-pound Intercontinental belt. As a coach, he has trained students from recreational athlete to world champion, and has been a WKA USA Team Coach and a USA Muay Thai Team USA Coach. Steve’s other passion is strength training; he loves the discipline required and the sense of being strong, healthy, and coordinated. He is part of the National Federation of Professional Trainers, a StrongFirst Certified Senior Instructor, Precision Nutrition certified, and a Flexible Steel Certified Instructor. Outside (and inside) the gym, you’ll find Steve training and playing with his dog, Boris, or bragging about his son, Hunter.
