About Coach

Brought up in the Bronx, Gio has been studying martial arts since he was 14, starting first with Ninjutsu. In 2001, he discovered Muay Thai and loved that it was a practical art, useful not just for fitness but also for fighting. This love of Muay Thai prompted him to start teaching it at Five Points in 2008. As an instructor, Gio strives to bring out the best in his students. He is always offering up his knowledge and experience and finds it incredibly rewarding to watch his students overcome obstacles, improve their skills, and grow. Gio has competed in the ring since 2008 and is now fighting professionally. In the past, he was the 2014 IKF Classic 135-pound champion, the 2012 USKA 140-pound champion, and the Friday Night Fights 2018 Lightweight champion at 135 pounds. Gio believes there is always something more to learn, techniques to improve, and experience to gain. He is always seeking the next level of training and sees it as part of his journey, both as an instructor and a student. As such, Gio frequently travels to Thailand to train at various Muay Thai camps to gain more knowledge and hands-on experience. A certified cat dad and fisherman, Gio also enjoys exploring the world of scotches and whiskeys.
