About Coach

You’d never know by looking at him, or those giant traps, but Cornell is a nerd. He works in tech and loves to nerd out on Star Trek: TNG, building Gundams and re-reading all the Dune books. He’s also a huge Muay Thai nerd. He loves diving into the rich history and all the various techniques and learning everything he can about it. Cornell started Muay Thai in Virginia in 2006, then moved to New York in 2010 and joined Five Points Academy because he had previously fought one of the coaches and knew its reputation. As an amateur, Cornell competed for a decade and won silver at the WKA Nationals in 2008 and gold in 2009, both at 125 pounds. He became an instructor at Five Points in 2013 and as a coach, he enthusiastically shares all his love and knowledge of Muay Thai with everyone around him. Training and especially teaching Muay Thai has made him understand that things will never be perfect but being comfortable with the process of always learning and improving is a skill that can be used in all aspects of life. Outside the gym, you’ll usually find Cornell with his camera in hand or playing in a band for fun.
