Testimonials I started at Five Points to lose weight and get fit. I quickly realized that they offer much more than the generic gym. I was impressed with the fact that they offered a variety of classes taught by elite instructors—but I held myself back because I didn’t feel that I was up for the challenge or fit enough to participate. That all changed when Arjan Simon recommended that I step out of my comfort zone and start taking the Muay Thai classes to help me drop the pounds and get in better shape. I’ve been taking the Muay Thai classes for the past three years, and have recently added judo to the mix. There is no doubt the classes have helped my to achieve my goals and then some! Training one-on-one with Simon has made such a difference. He is able to keep me motivated and focused by constantly challenging me with different and increasingly intense work-outs, monitoring my progress, and making each session fun—and have you seen him dance? —Karen Z. I've never belonged to a gym longer, or attended more frequently, than I do at Five Points Academy--and a lot of that has to do with Steve. When I arrive at Five Points at 7am, Steve has already been training for at least an hour by himself. That never fails to inspire me. Steve never stops. His work ethic is infectious. Steve has the candor and the knowledge to train any skill range from beginner to champion, so he does. He trains them all under the same happy roof of Five Points. Steve has the best ringside manner in the business. He's calm, direct and always has a plan. When I fight, I make sure I train with Steve first and that he's in my corner come the bell. Steve has a way of making you forget about your fears, or if not forget, drop a 20kg kettle bell on them. Steve will make you stronger, faster and more accurate with your technique. He will also make you understand why and how. If this were a movie, Steve would live bearded in mystery on a clouded mountain top that you would have to spend perilous months traversing in order to prove you are worthy of being his student. This is better than a movie. Steve is clean shaven and you only have to go to Broadway and Canal and he'll be happy to train you. —John K. I've been suffering from high cholesterol already for many years and I'm only 34. My father has a history of high cholesterol and in turn suffered a severe stroke. I found myself heading down that path, and much too fast. In February 09, I started to change my habits. I introduced organic foods to my diet and cut out sugar. I became serious about training at Five Points beyond the cardio and free weights I had become accustomed to. I began private training with Coach Gavin and Kru Natalie in all around conditioning and Muay Thai, respectively. In August 2009 I visited the Doctor that had warned me all those months earlier. My cholesterol level dropped from 225 to 174. I couldn't be happier and am truly seeing dramatic results in my health all around. —Bobby O. I found Five Points after a serious health scare and under doctor's orders. Having not exercised for most of my adult life, I was intimidated at the prospect of joining a gym and working with a trainer. I sought Steve out and he has literally changed my life. I was initially intimidated by Steve's background in Muay Thai and status as a champion fighter but his patient disposition and supportive teaching approach mitigated any fears and anxieties I had. A few years later and I am healthier and stronger than I have ever been, I have lost weight, gone down four clothing sizes and have made exercise a part of my lifestyle. This is all completely a reflection on everyone at Five Points -- the owners, trainers, etc. the facilities are immaculate, the equipment is all brand new and the trainers are true professionals. —Caroline K. I came to Five Points on the recommendation of a friend after having been a runner for my entire adult life. I was beginning to experience a new level of hip and lower back pain (from arthritis and general overuse). I figured it would would be a good workout without the same impact as running. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that not only is this sport one of the most intense and fun things I've ever done, it is a tougher workout than running! My fitness has increased dramatically and I've been able to work hard even with my lower back constraints. It is also the cleanest, friendliest and most supportive gym I've ever belonged to and I have belonged to them all over the past 20 years. The level of expertise among the owners and instructors is of the highest caliber. —Marian T. |
